Veyon 4.5.1 I can't open website from Master
-
Hi!
I have a problem. I upgraded the master and the client PCs to 4.5.1.
In the room have 24 PC.. i want open a website from the Master PC to Client computers. Of the 24 computers, the browser only opens on one computer.
The difference between machines 23 and 1: That one machine has TRAY ICON, the other 23 have not. What is the problem?

Configurator does provide an option to hide the tray icon in the advanced Service features.
Are you otherwise able to remote control the problematic computers?
At one of the computers you are not able to use the 'Open website' feature, open Configurator and go to the Service tab. Does the status of the service show State: Running?

"Configurator does provide an option to hide the tray icon in the advanced Service features."
I don't see this option in the Configurator.
"Are you otherwise able to remote control the problematic computers?"
I can play demo, remote and i can shut down the computers. But i cant WOL and run website and programs."At one of the computers you are not able to use the 'Open website' feature, open Configurator and go to the Service tab. Does the status of the service show State: Running?"
Yes, its running on the client and the master PC too.

At the top of the Configurator window are three menus File, View and Help. Within the View menu selecting Advanced will reveal the hidden Service option ‘Hide tray icon’. If the hide option is not selected then there could be several Windows specific reasons why the server icon is not present.
There is also the possibility of an unsuccessful Veyon update.
As a troubleshooting step I would suggest uninstalling Veyon 4.5.1 at one of client computers using the command below.
C:\Program Files\Veyon\uninstall.exe /ClearConfig
Then, reinstall Veyon 4.5.1 along with the necessary configuration settings.
Had WOL worked prior to updating the computers to 4.5.1?
-
"C:\Program Files\Veyon\uninstall.exe /ClearConfig"
its doesnt work. I uninstalled the program like this.. but i dont see the tray icon.. i think this is the primary problem. The Website open function working just the computer with Veyon tray icon...
"At the top of the Configurator window are three menus File, View and Help. Within the View menu selecting Advanced will reveal the hidden Service option ‘Hide tray icon’."
I find this one.. but i have not nothing in the check box... so.. i dont hided the icon, but Nonetheless i dont see the icon..
Other idea?

Windows itself can hide the display of icons by positioning them within a hidden, windowed section of the notification area. In Windows turn on ‘Always show all icons in the notification area’ found under Taskbar settings.
You seem to have a significant level of control through Veyon though not for the ‘Run program’ and ‘Open website’ features on all except one computer.
I believe ‘Open website’ requires use of cmd. Perhaps a security setting or GPO is preventing users from accessing cmd/command prompt.

Hello,
There is a possibility that the default applications are not the same on the master and the client, and the path to the exe is also different from the master to the client -> the path recorded in the master would not be found in the clients. (i experienced both on a former version )
Good luck -

I watch this settings, but i turned on this option.

Reverse. Its working just one computer and on other 23 not.

I dont think, because i used FOG Server, and i cloned the computers. This functions (open website and run program) worked the latest veyon version.

Possibly try manually uninstalling and reinstalling Veyon using the latest version at each of the non-working client computers. If you choose to go this route after uninstalling be sure to delete all Veyon related folders (Program Files, ProgramData) and also remove all Veyon related Registry keys. After reinstalling if using key file authentication create and distribute the necessary authentication keys.

Very curious.
Some questions, are you using Microsoft Active Directory from within an on-premises domain?
Are your student computers Windows 10 Pro/Edu, if so, which update, 1909, 2004, 20H2?
Do you use key file authentication or logon authentication?
-
Some technical background: first you should make sure the tray icon is visible on all computers. If it's not visible, the Veyon Service for some reason is not able to run it's own worker processes within the user session. The Veyon tray icon is provided by such a worker process. Launching the "Run program" or "Open website" features also launches a (different) worker process inside the user sessions as a helper process. This worker will then start the program or open the website and this way make sure the program or browser is opened with user privileges (instead of Admin/LocalSystem privileges which the Veyon Service is running with).
On computers where the tray icon is not visible, can you please check the
VeyonServer.log
file for messages starting withWindowsCoreFunctions
and post them here? -
